2. Overview

Wi-Fi is a trademark of the Wi-Fi Alliance and is a wireless local area network technology based on the IEEE 802.11 standard. A Wi-Fi-enabled mobile terminal can connect to the Internet within signal coverage, reducing the need for cabling and improving convenience.

Many processor vendors provide Wi-Fi processor solutions and their own drivers. These drivers are not universally applicable, and supported functions and performance may differ between driver versions. The Wi-Fi solution provider should supply an appropriate Linux Wi-Fi driver for porting.

On Linux, drivers and operating methods for different Wi-Fi processors are generally similar. Using CV184X as an example, this document describes driver porting and tuning for Realtek solutions on interfaces such as USB and SDIO, together with related operations.
